The QHUB antidepressants program
Antidepressant use is rising among older Australians, despite potential harms like falls and hyponatraemia. High prescribing rates, even with lower mental illness prevalence, suggest overuse. This trend poses clinical and economic challenges, demanding targeted interventions to ensure appropriate use in this vulnerable group.
Person-centred management of antidepressants is at the centre of the Quality Use of Medicines Alliance program.
Working with consumers and medical experts, we have developed a range of evidence-informed education interventions and resources to support improved quality use of antidepressants.
Over the course of the program, we will be rolling out more and more interventions. To stay up-to-date, you can follow the QHUB channel!
