Introduction to the Critical Care Nursing Course

The Critical Care Nursing course is designed to provide specialized knowledge and skills to nurses who are currently working, or are looking to commence work in critical care units including ICU, HDU, CCU and the ED. 

The course focuses on developing expertise in the care of the patient with a critical illness, life threatening emergency, or those who require complex monitoring and interventions including mechanical ventilation, inotropic & vasopressor therapy and continuous renal replacement therapy.

Focus Areas of the Critical Care Nursing Course

The course is broken into modules of learning covering:

• The physiology and pathophysiology of critical illnesses
• Assessment & monitoring including continuous cardiac and haemodynamic monitoring, ABG interpretation
• Pharmacology including vasoactive drugs
• Mechanical ventilation including modes, settings, weaning & troubleshooting
• Continuous renal replacement therapies

This course has been developed from the popular SURGE program and includes interactive case studies, and clinical review updates.
