Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration On Demand

Early recognition of clinical deterioration, with prompt and effective action including escalation can decrease the total number of interventions required to stabilise the patient and minimise adverse outcomes including cardiac arrest.

This program takes a case based approach to address the key criteria of Standard 8 - Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration from the 2nd edition of the National Safety and Quality Health Care Standards.

Focusing on an ABCDE approach to physical assessment, patient case studies will be used to apply clinical physiology, to understand the causes of deterioration to facilitate early recognition and response.  The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to care for the deteriorating patient including the importance of communication and escalation.

Case based webinar/recordings & eLearning including:

  • Essential physiology
  • The Role of Track and Trigger Systems
  • The patient with cardiac causes of deterioration including Acute Coronary Syndrome, APO & Arrhythmias
  • The patient with respiratory causes of deterioration including Type 1 and Type 2 failure
  • The patient with neurological & other causes of deterioration including Anaphylaxis, Sepsis Delirium & Pain

You should complete this course if you are interested in knowing more about how to recognise and manage patients experiencing clinical deterioration, and develop skills in patient assessment, communication and effective escalation.
