Critical Bytes - Advancements in heart failure and APO management

This February, wear Red for Feb. As Australia’s leading cause of death, heart disease affects families and communities around the country.  Increasing awareness about heart disease, and more specifically heart failure is about understanding the signs, symptoms and latest recommendations in management. That’s why our first Critical Byte for 2025 is in February, and we'll be wearing red-for-Feb.

Stabilising a patient with acute pulmonary oedema is a time-critical task, requiring a balance to optimise oxygenation and haemodynamics. For both new and experienced critical care clinicians, the pressure and distress from patients and their loved ones in these situations can be overwhelming.

To support your ability to deliver appropriate care during these life-threatening emergencies, this Critical Bytes session will take a look into the latest evidence-based guidelines for both pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of heart failure and acute pulmonary oedema.

Using case-based examples across different clinical areas including pre-hospital/ED, general/cardiac ward and ICU/CCU, this session will support your learning to:

  • Recognise heart failure symptoms, including breathlessness, fatigue, peripheral, sacral and pulmonary oedema

  • Recognise deterioration and escalate care to support timely interventions

  • Initiate and monitor treatment to optimise oxygenation and haemodynamic stability, including vasodilators, inotropes, high flow oxygen therapy, and non-invasive ventilation

  • Discuss the use of advanced therapies including balloon pump and ventricular assist devices

With live Q&A and interactive polls, you will have the opportunity to ensure a solid understanding of heart failure and acute pulmonary oedema management during this live webinar.  Like all of our live events, by enrolling in the course, you will have access to the recorded webinar if you can't attend on the day.

This is a Medcast Continuing Medical Education (CME) course.
