Course Description

This ALS course has been developed by leading Resuscitation Educators and Learning Management Developers and is delivered in a way that’s both engaging and informative and will assist with knowledge retention. It will emphasise a problem solving approach to the management of emergency situations using the latest ARC Guidelines.

The blended delivery mode has been developed to include short video lectures, online learning and video demonstrations interspersed with formative quizzes and case studies to ensure it's both engaging and can be applied in your workplace. It is also supported by the use of a multiple choice questionnaire which in addition to the learning, must be completed prior to attendance at the practical session. Typically the self-paced learning will take between 6 and 8 hours to complete.

Following completion of the online theory, you will attend a practical component with skills stations, during which you will rotate through to practice the techniques on manikins and receive individual instruction. The skill stations will include BLS in the context of Advanced Life Support, arrhythmia recognition, pharmacology, defibrillation, intubation, supraglottic-airway insertion, and cardiac arrest scenarios.

The small group practical skill stations will emphasize the assessment and management of the patient using a variety of techniques and equipment. Through this, practical skills and troubleshooting abilities will be developed. Following this, you will rotate through various roles in real time scenarios to aid in the application of your skills.

Upon completion of both the online learning and the hands on component, you will receive a digital certificate which will clearly state the CPD and Medical College points allocated.

Competency Assessment

Whilst all candidates will have their skills monitored and assessed throughout the practical sessions and scenarios, this workshop will be supported by the opportunity for you to have your competence assessed & accredited.

Those who are on a MET team, are educating or assessing ALS in their workplace and those who are likely to act in a team leader role during an arrest should complete the formal assessment. This aspect is optional for all other participants who are likely to be a team member only.

Audience

This Course is designed for all medical staff, nursing staff, and other health care professionals who need to be capable of providing immediate emergency care to their patients. It also meets the ALS training program requirement for GP registrars.

A separate one day program is available for those interested in Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Numbers are limited for these workshops, and due to popularity we advise you to register early to receive access to your online learning and secure your place.
