This Basic Life Support course covers the care that first-responders and healthcare professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in recognising and managing anaphylaxis, providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and using automated external defibrillators (AED)  in both adult and paediatric patients.

The course has been designed by leading Critical Care resuscitation educators and will cover:

  • Each step in the DRSABCD algorithm, as outlined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
  • The steps in managing a person who has collapsed
  • Anaphylaxis
  • The skills and techniques to enable the best possible outcome for a person who is experiencing a cardiac/respiratory arrest

The interactive learning includes case based eLearning with video demonstrations of skill application. This is self-paced learning and as such is completely flexible to fit your schedule. We recommend allowing 2 hours  of learning including the time to read the course manual.

Practical Component

In order to complete the BLS course, you need to complete a practical component demonstrating that you can provide effective CPR for 2 minutes on a manikin. You can do this in 1 of 3 flexible ways depending on what suits you.

  1. Book a short video conference session with one of our expert educators either as an individual or a group. During this session you will receive live feedback and collect your certificate on successful completion.
  2. Upload a video of yourself performing 2 minutes of CPR which will be reviewed in the days following submission, and if it meets the criteria, your certificate will be released.
  3. If you're doing the BLS with others in your workplace, arrange for a group and one of our expert educators can come to you. Additional costs apply.

Please note that if you select options 1 or 2 above, you will need to have access to a functioning manikin. If you need to purchase one, we recommend the following types of manikin:
