Domestic Abuse & Family Violence: GP Psychiatry Support Series

Overview

This recorded webinar aims to educate GPs to effectively manage patients who are experiencing family and domestic violence; provide advice on how to open a dialogue with these patients and create treatment plans/pathways. The webinar will also help GPs develop an understanding of the mental health factors involved.

During this webinar, Dr Martin Cohen, Psychiatrist in conjunction with Dr Elizabeth Hindmarsh, GP, will dicuss tips and resources available for GPs, as well as:

  • The prevalence of family and domestic violence and frequency of presentation in General Practice.
  • How a GP can define family and domestic violence and having a patient centred conversation.
  • Determining risks based on presentation and screening tools to use to assess safety.
  • The Mental Health considerations when dealing with family and domestic violence.
  • Children living with family and domestic violence and when to consider mandatory
    reporting.
  • GPs working with whole families.

The recording is one hour long and includes a post-activity quiz.
