Internet gaming is particularly popular among young people. Despite its recreational and entertainment aspects, a minority of individuals engage excessively experiencing problems in their education, employment and relationships with others. These gaming related difficulties have prompted the American Psychiatric Association (2013) and the World Health Organization (2019) to propose independent diagnostic classifications, to describe this emerging condition. Our webinar will explore issues related to disordered gaming presentation, assessment and treatment integrating contemporary research and clinical practice evidence.

- Describe gaming behaviours related to higher risk for disordered gaming
- Identify cases/clients presenting at higher risk for disordered gaming to be referred to specialized services
- Integrate game related mechanics, such as flow, presence and the user-avatar bond in their case formulation and treatment planning regarding at-risk clients
- Identify online resources useful for families and people suffering from disordered gaming

The webinar series examines some of the online mental health treatment programs that GPs and Allied Health Professionals need to know about, focusing on evidence-based programs that have been developed in Australia. The evidence around the efficacy and usefulness of different programs will be discussed along with practical aspects of using the programs.
