Anticoagulation challenges in general practice

Anticoagulation challenges in general practice: balancing risk and prevention

Managing anticoagulation in general practice becomes more complex as patients age, their health changes, and comorbidities increase. This webinar explores how to safely initiate, monitor, adjust, or deprescribe DOACs during times of transition—such as declining renal function, frailty, periprocedural care, and admission into aged care.

Using real patient cases, polling, and interactive decision-making, you’ll explore:
  • When to adjust or review anticoagulation

  • Managing bleeding and stroke risk over time

  • DOAC use in the periprocedural period

  • Clinical scenarios in which anti-platelet therapy is used in conjunction with a DOAC

  • Tools for risk reassessment including CHA2DS2-VA and GARFIELD-AF

Presented by:

Dr Kate Annear, General Practitioner
Dr Bradley Wilsmore, Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist

These experienced clinicians will guide you through complex, real-world scenarios and provide practical strategies that can be immediately applied in general practice.

This Continuing Medical Education (CME) educational session is brought to you by Medcast and the Quality Use of Medicines Alliance.
