Vaireti Mafoe

Vaireti is a NZ born Samoan migrated to Australia over 30 years ago, having worked in Health for 20+ years at various Health Facilities.

Vaireti was previously employed with Southwest Community Transport as Admin Supervisor which has over 1000 clients, facilitated transport services for the elderly,
wheelchair bound clients and their carers to attend medical appointments, shopping excursions and group day outings.

From there Vaireti moved to HammondCare as the Palliative Care Secretary at Braeside Hospital for several years under Director - Professor Meera Agar and Dr Fiona Stafford Bell. Vaireti was afforded the opportunity to be a part of a crucial and somewhat celebration of life as patients entered the next stage of their life journey.
The excellent care provided by Braeside Hospital and the various multi-disciplines was invaluable in understanding the end-of-life journey, also engaged with the medical students in their rotation in Palliative Care.

Vaireti moved to WSLHD as the Administration Manager at Parramatta Community Health Centre Services - which included Podiatry, Sexual Health, Mental Health, Wound Clinic, Paediatrician, Pharmacy, Chronic and Complex Care Nurses visiting clients in the home.

Vaireti moved to SWSLHD as Medical Officer at Fairfield Hospital under Director Medical Services Dr Harry Doan. He was the Secretary for the Directors of Emergency Department – Dr James Parks and Dr Lucille Ban, Ambulatory Care – Dr Tai Tak Wan, Dr Clive Sun, Dr Lynette Rheinberger and Dr Faris Werdi and the Geriatric Flying Squad (GFS) – Dr Alicia Anthony and Dr Gayatri Mujumdar. Working under various specialties gave Vaireti invaluable knowledge and a new appreciation with Emergency Medicine, Outpatient and Geriatric Services. 

Despite working fulltime, Vaireti is also a volunteer within South Western Sydney Local Health District for the “Gout Consumer Reference Group” and “Natural Helper Project” of which he was attached to the Rheumatology Outpatients Clinic targeting and mentoring the Pacific Island patients, sharing lived experience, encourage and enable the patients to make better healthy lifestyle choices, adherence to medication regime and check in on their well being as well. In November 2023, up against 40 nominations, 7 finalists Vaireti was awarded the SWSLHD Volunteer Appreciation Award of the Year, for his generous support to the District.
