Dr Carol Newall is a clinical psychologist in private practice. She is also a workplace facilitator at the Black Dog Institute. Her niche is in anxiety and depression with adults and children. She completed her PhD in behavioural neuroscience and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Emotional Health focusing on parenting, childhood anxiety, and fear reduction. She was an academic until January 2020 when she decided to start her own consultancy business so that she could spend more time gardening, travelling, and being with her children. Given her background, she has a solid research track record in psychological research, with a focus on anxiety and educational studies.

When I returned to work from maternity leave, I was struggling with weight issues and general poor health following a tough flu season. My mood also plummeted from over-work and family responsibilities.
I was called in by my Head of Learning and Teaching to discuss my ‘workload’ recently. My first thought was “oh no, they will add more to my workload as they’ve discovered that I’ve been working under my contracted hours”.
